A11 - Introduction to Impressionist Full Color Painting - Aug 6-10, 2018

Dates:  August 6-10, 2018

Class Times: Mon-Thurs 9am-5pm; Fri 9am-2:30pm

Instructor:  Marcia Wise

Open Studio: Mon-Thurs 7-9pm

This workshop loosens the student up by it’s bold and fearless approach to using color, as it gives everyone a hands-on opportunity to jump into painting right away. We will cover the elements of good painting and drawing skills with an introduction to the Impressionist Color Theory utilizing block & rounded object studies, working outdoors, weather permitting. The workshop will combine plein air painting with studio color studies. Students will also be asked to bring photographs for reference studies. We will learn how to simplify scenes into shapes of color values beginning with block studies, then integrating simple rounded objects as we move toward creating simple landscape paintings. Students will be moved along quickly with critiques each day, often at the end of a painting session, while also getting attendees to begin to critique their own work and other’s as well. We will use the palette knife exclusively at first, and later, brushes can be used. The use of the palette knife is mandatory at first so that we can think only in terms of color and color placement and eradicating the need to pay attention to details.

Material Cost:  None
