Make a small child’s necktie chair seat without tracking down a chair or the ties! Come and learn the basics of making a tie seat, and leave with a beautiful child’s rocker, or a footstool (both made of hardwood), ready to use as a gift, or as a unique accent piece in your home. Bring a sewing machine, polyester thread, and sharp scissors. You may purchase or borrow other necessary tools from the instructor. The cost of the ties and the child’s rocker or footstool, are included in the materials fee!

Materials Fee:  $65+

About the Instructor:

Joyce graduated from Skidmore College with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in Art. She has had a lifelong interest in the visual arts and has training in graphic design. In recent years she has developed a fascination with saving old furniture through repainting, stenciling and chair seating. Joyce has honed her skills in chair seating by taking numerous classes with Sandy Sherman, learning caning, fiber rush, and Shaker tape. Necktie chair seats combine her interest in well-loved furniture and creative uses for cast-off items. Joyce currently assists with catalog layout for the Society of VT Artists and Craftsmen, Inc. and is the Volunteer Coordinator on the Society Board of Directors
