Robert Frost Award Presented

On August 17, at our late summer Craft Festival, our annual Robert Frost award was presented to Layne Herschel of Essex Junction, Vermont.

Robert Frost was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Society, 72 years ago.The Robert Frost Award is presented annually to the person who best represents excellence in art education, service, and leadership within the Society and the State of Vermont.

Layne Herschel of Essex VT received her certification as an instructor of the Oxford method of Punch Needle Rug Hooking in 2001 and now teaches privately and at Fletcher Farm School. Her rugs have been featured in 2 of Amy's books. She belongs to the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild and has displayed at its shows. Layne served for many years as Chairman of the Board of the Society of Vermont Artists and Craftsman.She dedicated much time and effort to improving the curriculum and finances of the Society and Fletcher Farm School. Layne was instrumental in having Fletcher Farm School designated as a Vermont State Craft Education Center.
