This two-day workshop will introduce students to the basic methods of weaving baskets. These building blocks can be applied to larger and more complex patterns. We will work with a variety of reed sizes and shapes to create two or three different style baskets. Lashing, twining, triple rod whale, over/under; all these weaving techniques will be used to ensure that each person has their own unique basket to take home. These are sturdy little baskets that will add beauty to your home and be useful at the same time. You will gain a new appreciation for a craft that has been with us since ancient times.
Meg’s interest in weaving started with reading an article in Early American Life many years ago. Largely self-taught, she has mastered several types of chair seat weaving, including hand caning, pressed cane, Shaker tape and porch chair herringbone weave. She has taught classes to all age levels and demonstrated at area festivals, craft shows and the BigE. Meg believes that traditional crafts belong in all our lives.
