Class Description:

This class focuses on painting flowers on silk using resists. No artistic experience is needed to get going with this fun and forgiving art form, but practice does improve the results!  In the morning, we will experiment with resists—since color migrates a lot on silk and needs to be contained—to create a couple of small compositions of flowers (traced or drawn freehand). In the afternoon, we will color the compositions in with silk paints. The instructor will also offer suggestions for finishing and framing your compositions. Painting frames, pins, silk, resists, brushes, palettes, and silk paints will be supplied by the instructor.

Instructor Biography:

Nancy Monson is a mixed-media artist and the author of Craft to Heal: Soothing Your Soul with Sewing, Painting and Other Pastimes. She was an Artist in Residence at Fletcher Farm School in 2019 and has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Fiber Art from the University of Massachusetts. Her work has been exhibited at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, Yale New Haven Hospital, and other venues, and she teaches at various art studios in the US.
