In this workshop students will learn the basics of punch needle rug hooking. Students will make a 14” chair seat pad or a wall hanging, and by doing so will learn all of the skills necessary for making larger rugs. Choose from a multitude of patterns offered by the instructor or draw your own. The Oxford Punch Needle will be used will be used along with a palette. The Oxford Punch Needle will be used along with a palette of beautiful 100% hand-dyed wool yarns that will be available from which to choose your colors. Other techniques like using wool strips and the mini punch needle will be demonstrated in in class. This class may be taken as a two-day or three-day class. On the third day, you can finish your chair seat pad and then participate in a free project using the mini punch with wool worsted or with the # 10 hook using wool strips. We will also go over techniques for designing your own rugs. Layne is an Oxford Punch Needle certified instructor.
Layne Herschel of Essex, VT & Cape Cod, Mass., began taking Amy Oxford’s rug hooking classes in the mid 1990’s and continues to expand her knowledge and skills as techniques and equipment evolve. Layne received her Oxford Certification as a teacher of Punch Needle Rug Hooking in 2001 and now teaches privately and at Fletcher Farm School. Her rugs have been featured in 2 of Amy’s books. She belongs to the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild and has displayed at its shows.
