Class Description:

Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or other subject matter by incorporating natural light, color and movement into their works. This is all done outside as “plein air” in French literally means  “in open air”.

We’ll spend a day working with the beautiful campus at Fletcher Farm school, working outdoors, so come prepared with your own sketching materials, an easel if needed,  and possibly a small portable stool or blanket to sit on while drawing. We’ll go over some drawing terms at the beginning of the day so everyone is comfortable with their meaning and application in the drawing  process. We will spend time in the middle of the day doing a little mini review of our progress and engage in some discussion  and then spend the afternoon drawing as well. You will  bring your own drawing materials to work in color or black and white. Dress appropriately for the weather, too.

At the end of the day we’ll do some review and talk about what we’ve accomplished and learn from each other. If it rains that day, class will be held indoors. But let’s keep our fingers crossed it’ll be a gorgeous sunny day to express our creativity on paper.
