This class will explore the basics of using alcohol inks on Yupo paper and glass vases to make spontaneous, abstract compositions. Alcohol inks are highly pigmented and are meant to be used on nonporous surfaces. They do very unexpected things, so don’t get too attached to a specific design. Bring two or more vases to paint; you can also bring glossy (sealed) coasters or tiles, foil, metal cans, mirrors, plastic acetate, Tyvek, and other non-porous materials to experiment on. All other supplies will be provided by the instructor except for sealant (varnish). Students may choose to leave their work at Fletcher Farm so the instructor can varnish them after thorough drying, or take them home to seal them on their own so the inks don’t fade. Students may wish to take the half-day class on Thursday, July 14 to create note cards and books to showcase their alcohol ink compositions.
