WS17 - Beginner Pysanky - March 22, 2020

Learn the ancient Ukrainian Easter egg art of pysanky. Since pagan times, Ukrainians have decorated eggs to welcome spring. In this class, you will learn how to divide an egg, use hot beeswax applied with a kistky funnel to draw on the egg over a succession of aniline dyes, and create two beautiful eggs. The morning will be spent understanding the process of pysanky through a star design, while the afternoon will allow your creativity to shine.

About the Instructor: 

Shannon Wallis has been writing pysanky since 1994. She teaches throughout VT and NH, and at the annual PysankyUSA Retreat in PA. She is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen in mixed media and a pottery studio monitor at the Hanover League. Shannon won the People's Choice Award for a goose egg in the International Pysanka Exhibition at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch in June 2019.
