If a family heirloom has seen better days, don't throw it away or if you are fascinated by intricate patterns of caned seats, this is the class for you! Students will learn the art of chair caning in the traditional 7 step method. Weaving will be done on an oak footstool frame. You will be able to apply what you have learned in class to other chairs that are made to be hand caned.
We will also discuss other materials and methods of weaving chair seats.

About the Instructor:
Meg Kupiec treasures the traditional ways of creating useful things by hand. Self-taught , after being inspired by an article in Early American Life magazine, she has mastered not only caning, but rush and splint seat weaving as well. She looks forward every year to sharing her knowledge at the Big E by demonstrating chair caning and basketry. She is a member of the Seat Weavers Guild and the Northeast Basket Makers Guild. Meg teaches frequently in the Keene NH area.
