Description

A versatile workshop open to new students and seasoned hookers. Most new students make a 14” chair seat pad or a wall hanging, allowing learn all the skills necessary for making larger rugs. A multitude of patterns are offered by the instructor or you can draw your own. Seasoned punchers will have the option to make more intricate designs or their own design creation.

The Oxford Punch Needle will be used along with a palette of beautiful 100% hand-dyed wool yarns that will be available from which to choose your colors. Other techniques like using wool strips and the mini punch needle will be demonstrated in in class. You may attend one, two or three-days of the workshop.

If you finish your chair seat pad/wall hanging you are welcome to participate in a free project using a mini punch with worsted wool or with the #10 hook using wool strips. Also covered are techniques for designing your own rugs.   Layne is an Oxford Punch Needle certified instructor.

This is a flexible 3-day workshop. Choose the days that work best for you! This workshop has a separate materials fee that is variable and based on materials used and will be paid directly to the instructor

Teaching Artist Biography: Layne Herschel

Layne lives in Essex, Vermont and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, began taking Amy Oxford’s rug hooking courses in the mid 1990’s and continues to expand her knowledge and skills as techniques and equipment evolve. Layne received her Oxford Certification as a teacher of Punch Needle Rug Hooking in 2001 and now teaches privately and at Fletcher Farm School. Her rugs have been featured in two of Amy Oxford’s books. She belongs to the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild and has displayed her art at its shows.
