In this class students will learn how to lay out and carve a small figure from a 1-3/4″ x 1-3/4″ x 4″ block of basswood. Thumbguards, cut-resistant gloves, and carving knives will be provided, although participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment, if desired. Basic skills will be taught, such as how to safely execute the three primary woodcarving cuts and how to sharpen your knife. The design can be easily modified to create a gnome, or even a small Santa. Time permitting, you may paint your person with a personalized pattern.
