Class Description:

In this class we will take a couple of older/used knit garments and make something new using appliqué and reverse appliqué techniques. We will layer the garments, cut designs into the top and then hand stitch around the openings. Embellishing the design with appliqué pieces and embroidery stitches will complete the new creations. Students are   to bring their choice of used garments to cut into such as old t-shirts. Hand sewing supplies such as threads, needles, scissors and extra fabric will be provided by the instructor.

Instructor Biography:

Denise Sokolsky is a mixed media artist with an MFA in fiber arts from UMass where she taught Basic Construction Sewing and Pattern Design courses. She had residencies at UMass Dartmouth and in Blönduós, Iceland.  Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Canada.
