Online Decorative Painting with Tricia Joiner – Frequently Asked Questions

For the Meet and Greet FREE session.

If you have ever wanted to create a wonderful painted piece of decorative artwork, this is your chance to learn how.  Bring your friends and join my FREE Zoom Meet and Greet session.  It will be live and interactive.  In this session, you will learn to navigate a Zoom classroom so that you can participate in a Fletcher Farm School for Arts and Crafts painting class with me.

Think forward – this will be the way of the future for learning, teaching, and connecting. Take your front row seat in my virtual classroom without spending any money on travel, hotels, or restaurants.  Bring your coffee cup and your excitement and let me show you how much fun we can have together while learning some painting techniques that are my specialty.

What do you need to take the class?

You will need a device with a camera and microphone and a good internet connection. This can be your laptop, desktop, tablet, or even your smart phone (although the screen will be a little small). Almost all computers sold in the past 10 years have a built-in camera and microphone that are suitable. If not, or if you want a more convenient way to show your work for critiquing, you can use a separate webcam (such as those sold by Logitech and others). You will also be asked to download the Zoom app for your device when you join your first meeting. This provides a more stable software platform for the connection than using your browser.

For the painting classes:

What painting supplies do you need?

Brushes

The brushes for my techniques are sable and were made especially to my specifications.  After you register for the Zoom class, you will receive an order form. I have created two sets of brushes – a bare necessities set (approx. $40,00) and a larger, more complete set (approx. $80.00). I use these brushes for everything I paint.  If you are painting in more than one class, the same brushes will be used for all projects so they only need to be purchased once.

Paints

A limited palette of DecoArt Americana Acrylics is used in all classes.  The colors will be listed for each project, and you will receive a source for obtaining the paints.  If you have registered for one class, purchase only the paints necessary for that class.  If you are in several classes, order the entire kit.

Painting Surfaces

Zhostovo is a decorative painting style in which the designs are created specifically for a surface.  There is a fee of approximately $25.00 which covers the cost of the surface and the downloadable, printable instructional materials. Unless you live locally, there will also be shipping charges.

What instructional materials are included?

As mentioned above, each student will receive a PDF file with the tracing designs, color step-by-step worksheets, palette colors, and detailed painting instructions to print out at home or your local copy shop.

How do you sign up?

Go to the Fletcher Farm School for the Arts and Crafts website (https://www.fletcherfarm.org) and complete your registration online or call the School (802-228-8770) for more information.

Are there extra materials to consider?

Yes.  Again, after registering, you will receive a list of things to gather from home or your local craft store, such as paper towels.  Using the search words “Tricia Joiner” and “Zhostovo” on YouTube, check out my two videos on how to set up a painting place and how and why I use the specified brushes.
